Hey, y'know how they have chat rooms with certain topics on Ventrillo? I thought it'd be cool if we did something like that with QuickNotes... tell me what y'all think.

hmm, that sounds awsome, and then there's one that is like general like the one we have now. like it. *grin*

hmmm, give some examples. I mean, how might you want it laid out and stuff? I mean, it sounds a big vague right now...

Like since there's a lot of political arguments, we could make a debate chat room. And a general chat room. And language and culture. basicaly like the boards. um. teen hangout. music and musicians. broadcasters? stuff like that. youth group and stuff.

yes i like the sound of that. teen hangout sounds pretty cool.

and then i also think we should have topics like the boards so we can see who's posted what and reply

Yeah. Maybe on the main page there could be a heading called chat rooms or something, then links to the different chat rooms. But could they be qn's? Or was that what you were thinking, Mel?

I think that essentially the problem with doing this is that you will potentially only have two or three users talking in one place at a time, whereas at the moment everyone talks on the main page, and if they want to talk about something specific they can either do it to people in private notes, or bring up the topic and others can either choose to join in or not. I think essentially the issue with having certain themed rooms will give users the impression that they can only talk about certain topics in certain rooms, and it also has the potential for the community to divide up more into cleeqs.

I'm not putting down your idea, just offering my opinion on it, smiles, we already have message boards where people can discuss certain topics, smile

I want to hear more opinions on this, and I'm sure the others do too...what do the rest of you think? Cause personally, I agree, that it would divide the community up a bit...

Although I agree with Sugar that there might not be many people in each room at once, I do like the idea. Since some people on here prefer clean talk we could have a room for them, as well as ones for kids and teens. And all the other topics suggested. A political debating room might be interesting. And maybe a singles one too.

I imagine though that coding the site so that the quicknote feature essent9ially is divided up into sections might be somewhat difficult. Whenever I have been on to chat sites before, I tend to find that everyone congrigates in one room, how much would people really utilise the facility? enough to warrant the time it would take to programme it?

Post 11 by asdfghjkl (Account disabled) on Monday, 16-May-2005 18:12:03

Yes, I meant QuickNotes, Alison. Yeah, I agree about the whole separation thingy. Um. The boards are a lot like that, but they're... well, you hafta wait for a topic to be updated. I'm talking like, for example, if someone wanted to play word association live, then they could do that in a certain chat room or whatever. If some people wanted to have a debate live instead of waiting a few hours or days for their topics to be updated, they could do that. If someone wanted to have a prayer meeting... eh, get my point?

I think I see what you mean. It could be cool! Especially for those of us who can't use ventrilo.

Post 13 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 16-May-2005 22:27:14

This sounds a lot like the existing graffiti boards to me. What do you others think?

Post 14 by Jess227 on Tuesday, 17-May-2005 0:02:15

I agree Chris. It seems like it's like Grafitti. And why waste the room and hassle of coding when you have MSN Messenger, Ventrilo and Aim and other messenger/chat programs to meet up with people? I understand some people might not have mics so MSN, Aim or any other messenger program would do for chatting as I think it'd def. divide the community. Because someone might not want to join that category, and attend a category thats got like 6 or more people in it. That will make that user feel left out and abandoned so I really think this shouldn't happen.

Post 15 by kool_turk (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 17-May-2005 1:25:05

I agree, why not just use the grifiti section.

Post 16 by asdfghjkl (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 17-May-2005 18:10:15

Yeah, but then again, that isn't updated for days. I mean live chat.

Post 17 by Jess227 on Wednesday, 18-May-2005 0:02:53

even still I still think it's gonna divide the community. read my above post.

Post 18 by asdfghjkl (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 18-May-2005 7:41:19

Yeah... I thought about that... I guess that would be a drawback...

Post 19 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 18-May-2005 16:50:40

anyway with the grafeete thingy you can't reply to messages.

why not just stick with ventrillo?

Post 20 by asdfghjkl (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 18-May-2005 18:28:22

Because, Daniel, I don't have Ventrillo, and I'm not allowed to. I just thought this'd be a cool idea for peeps who don't have Ventrillo.
